Game 1: Bates 5, Trinity 1 BATES, TRINITY SPLIT NESCAC EAST DOUBLEHEADER HARTFORD, Conn. The Bates College softball team split a NESCAC East doubleheader with host Trinity College today. The Bobcats won their conference opener, 5-1, while the Bantams captured the nightcap, 4-1. Bates (2-11, 1-1 NESCAC East) junior Krissie Whiting (Contoocook, N.H.) was the star of the game in the opener, both on the mound and at the plate. Whiting held the Trinity to just five hits and one earned run in picking up the victory. At bat, she went three-for-three with a pair of doubles. Sophomore Sarah Levine (Leeds, Mass.) and rookie Erin Foye (New London, Conn.) also added two hits each for the Bobcats. Trinity (3-14, 1-3 NESCAC East) rebounded in the second game, scoring once in the first inning on an RBI single by junior SS Laura Heath (Windsor, Conn.). The Bantams took control in the second when Bates hurlers Ginger Walsh (Hopkinton, N.H.) and Sarah Klenakis (Springfield, Mass.) walked five straight batters. Klenakis settled down after that, allowing just one hit in the final four-and-a-third innings.
