WALTHAM, Mass. — The Bates College softball team snapped a ten-game losing streak today when the Bobcats defeated the Brandeis University Judges, 9-1, in the first game of a doubleheader. The Bobcats could not complete their first twinbill sweep of the season, falling 11-7 in the second game.

Bates (6-25) jumoed out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the third inning thanks to a bases-loaded double from rookie 2B Erin Foye (New London, Conn.). Sophomore C Cami Dyson (Arvada, Colo.) followed with an RBI single and sophomore RF Sarah Levine (Leeds, Mass.) capped the frame with a two-out RBI double. The Judges answered with a solo home run in the bottom of the third, but four more runs in the fourth gave Bates the eight-run lead they needed to end the game after five innings. Foye and Levine both added one more RBI, while Dyson's bases-loaded single drove in two more runs as the three players combined for all nine runs batted in. Rookie Sarah Klenakis (Springfield, Mass.) earned her third win of the season.

In game two, Bates scored in four of seven innings, but Brandeis (12-19) put 10 runs on the board in the fourth inning to secure the win. The Judges had eight hits in the inning, including six doubles off three Bates pitchers. The Bobcats got a big game at the plate from rookie SS Lindsay Mayock (No. Conway, N.H.), who went 3-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Junior C Brooke Tardiff (Wells, Maine) had two RBI, while classmate 1B Carla Flaherty (Gorham, Maine) scored twice.
