BOBCATS STAY IN SIXTH AT UVM
Johnson takes second in women's 15K freestyle

STOWE, Vt. — The Bates College ski team competed in the University of Vermont Carnival Feb. 1-3, going an extra day when Friday's alpine races were cancelled because of poor weather conditions. The Bobcats finished sixth of 13 teams who competed.

The weekend's top performance came from the women's Nordic team, who placed fifth overall in the 15K freestyle race on the strength of a second place finish from sophomore Haley Johnson (Lake Placid, N.Y.). Johnson's time of 48:26.5 was just 12 seconds out of first place. Sophomore Abbie Harris (Derby Line, Vt.) and junior captain Jane Marshall (Boise, Idaho) finished 24th and 30th, respectively, picking up NCAA qualifying points in the process. For the men's Nordic team, junior Justin Easter (Jay, Maine) solidified his chances for an eighth consecutive season appearing in an NCAA championship with two top 10 finishes, taking eighth in the 10K classical and seventh in the 20K freestyle.

On the alpine side, senior Kyle Hildebrand (Waitsfield, Vt.) continued his excellence in the slalom with his fourth-place finish. Hildebrand also took 11th in the giant slalom. Senior Jo-Ellen Rowley (Milton, Vt.) led the way for the women downhill racers, taking 18th in both the slalom and the GS.
