MEN'S TENNIS RETURNS TO NCAAS

LEWISTON, Maine —For the third year in a row, the Bates College men's tennis team will make an appearance in the NCAA Division III Northeast regional championships. The Bobcats, seeded seventh, will take on No. 2 seed Middlebury College on Saturday, May 11 at 2 p.m. The winner of the Bates-Middlebury match will take on the winner of the match between No. 4 Bowdoin and No. 5 Trinity on Sunday, May 12.

Coached by Paul Gastonguay '89, the Bates men's tennis team boasts an 8-5 record this season, with all five losses coming at the hands of nationally ranked teams. The Bobcats finished fourth at the recent New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) team championships. This is the team's third consecutive NCAA tournament bid.

Middlebury (11-3) placed third at the NESCAC championships. The Panthers defeated Bates, 6-1 in their second match of the season on March 16. That was the Bobcats' first match in New England. Bates won the doubles point, while Middlebury swept the singles matches, though four of those six went to a third set.
