FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BATES WOMEN'S LACROSSE EARNS SEVENTH SEED IN ECACS
LEWISTON, Maine The Bates College women's lacrosse team (9-7) will return to the postseason for the first time since 1995 as the Bobcats received the seventh seed in the Eastern College Athletic Association (ECAC) Division III New England tournament. The Bobcats will take on second seed and CBB foe Colby (9-5) in Waterville on May 9 at 4 p.m.
The Bobcats are led by a balanced scoring attack that features five players with at least 20 goals. Senior attack wing Erin Flynn of Newton, N.J., tops the list with 33 goals. Earlier this season, Flynn became the third player in Bates history to score 100 career goals and currently has 130 for her career. Classmate Jen Sall of Gladwyne, Pa., the team's leading scorer with 27 goals and 16 assists for 43 points, reached the 100-point plateau for her career in the Bobcats loss to Williams in the first round of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) tournament.
Bates and Colby will meet for the second time this season. The White Mules took a 15-12 decision in Lewiston on April 4. That game was tied, 7-7, at the half, before the Bobcats jumped out to an 11-8 lead midway through the second half. The teams traded the next two goals before Colby netted the final six tallies of the contest. Flynn scored five goals in that game, while Colby's Allyson King had four.
Other first-round matchups in the ECAC tournament feature No. 1 Williams (10-3) hosting No. 8 New England College (11-1); No. 3 Tufts (8-6) hosting No. 6 Springfield (11-5); and No. 4 Wheaton (11-5) hosting No. 5 Trinity (8-7). The highest remaining seed will host the semifinals and finals on May 12-13.
