WHITING NAMED TO ALL-NESCAC WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM

LEWISTON, Maine - Bates College sophomore midfielder Krissie Whiting of Contoocook, N.H., has been selected to the All-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) second team, as selected by the conference's 10 coaches.

Whiting is the Bobcats' leading scorer in 2000 with seven goals and an assist for 15 points. She has recorded two multi-goal games this season, Sept. 27 against Simmons College and Oct. 17 against the University of New England, an NCAA Division III tournament qualifier, both Bates victories. She also scored one of Bates' biggest goals of the season Oct. 7 against Williams College, breaking a 1-1 tie in the 65th minute against the Ephs, the top ranked team in the nation at the time. Whiting also notched the game-winner in Bates' 1-0 win over Connecticut College on Oct. 21. Her success as a sophomore follows a rookie season in which she was second on the team with four assists and third with six points. Whiting was also named a second-team All-NESCAC selection in the spring as a member of the Bobcat softball team.

The Bates College women's soccer team finished the 2000 regular season with a 10-5 record. The Bobcats earned the second seed in the ECAC Division III New England championship tournament, winning their Nov. 1 quarterfinal contest against Plymouth State College, 2-1. They will host a rematch with NESCAC rival Williams, the tournament's sixth seed, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4. This marks the Bobcats' fifth straight post-season appearance and sixth in seven years under head coach Jim Murphy '69.

Whiting is a 1999 graduate of Hopkinton High School. She is the daughter of John and Anne Whiting, Contoocook, N.H.
