BUCKLEY NAMED TO ALL-NESCAC MEN'S LACROSSE TEAM
Sells named to East-West Senior All-Star Game

LEWISTON, Maine — Bates College senior defenseman Chris Buckley of Washington, D.C., has been named to the All-New England Small College Athletic Conference second team for his play this season. Buckley was also named to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) East-West Senior All-Star Game along with fellow tri-captain Aaron Sells of Brookline, Mass. The game will be played May 13 at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., at 2 p.m.

Buckley started all 13 of the Bobcats' contests this season and 37 of the 38 games he played in over the past three seasons. He was third on the team with 28 ground balls in 2001. Buckley was one of the key factors' on a Bates defense that allowed just over nine goals per game this season (9.38). The Bobcats were among the top 20 in NCAA Division III play in scoring defense for much of the season, reaching as high as 16th.

Sells, who has started all 55 games in four years at Bates, was the team's third-leading scorer with 14 goals and 11 assists for 25 points. His 11 assists were second on the team, while his 37 ground balls topped the squad. Sells recorded three hat tricks this season and had a five-point game with two goals and three assists against Tufts, April 22.Sells was one of three 100-point career scorers on the team, finishing with 87 goals and 37 assists for 120 points.

Under first-year head coach Peter Lasagna, who will coach Buckley and Sells on the East team at the All-Star Game, the Bobcats finished the 2001 season with a 6-7 record. Among their wins was a thrilling 9-8 win over in-state conference rival Colby, Bates' first since 1986, and an 11-10 overtime triumph over NESCAC foe Tufts.

Buckley is a 1997 graduate of St. Albans High School.

Sells is a 1997 graduate of Governor Dummer Academy.
