HILDEBRAND EARNS SECOND ALL-AMERICA HONOR OF 2001

LEWISTON, Maine — Junior skier Kyle Hildebrand of Waitsfield, Vt., finished second in the slalom event at the NCAA skiing championships at Middlebury, Vt., with a time of 1:25.22, earning his second All-America honor of 2001.

In sixth place after the first run of the day, Hildebrand posted the best final run of the day, 42.37 seconds, the second best time of the day. The second-place finish is the best in Bates skiing history, surpassing the third-place finish posted by Sean Clark '97 in 1995. Hildebrand earned his second All-America honor of 2001 and the third of his career, the most-ever by a Bates skier. Also competing for the Bobcat ski team today, senior Janel Ippolito of Rumford Point, Maine, finished 22nd in the women's slalom with a time of 1:35.31. Sophomore Kim Rogers of Charlestown, Mass., fell during the events second run and did not finish. As a team, the Bobcats placed 13th overall, up three spots from 2000. Their 174 points were the most since scoring 207 points in 1998.

At the NCAA Division III women's swimming and diving championships in Buffalo, N.Y., sophomore Megan Ferrari of Doylestown, Pa., took part in the in the 200-yard breaststroke and did not qualify for the finals. She placed 20th in this morning's preliminary races. With a time of 2:28.58, Ferrari missed the finals by 0.57 seconds. Ferrari finished second among New England competitors in the event.

At the NCAA Division III women's track and field championships in Osh Kosh, Wisconsin, sophomore Abigail Anthony of Jamestown, R.I., finished 11th in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:48, fifth among New England runners.
