COULIE NAMED SECOND TEAM ALL-NESCAC

LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates College senior centerfielder Jason Coulie of Manchester, N.H., was named a second-team All-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) selection for the second year in a row.

Coulie, a multi-sport athlete at Bates, will be featured on Wednesday, May 10, on the New England Sports Network's (NESN) program Front Row. The show will air at 5 p.m. and be rebroadcast at 5:30 p.m. NESN airs on Adelphia Cable in Lewiston on Channel 25.

Coulie led the Bobcats in batting and home runs for the third consecutive season, hitting a career-best .415 (39-of-94) with seven round trippers. He also had a team-high 23 RBI and 20 stolen bases, while finishing second with 23 runs scored and eight doubles. Coulie twice homered in both ends of a double-header this season, April 8 against Bowdoin and May 2 against Maine-Farmington.

Against UMF, Coulie's home run to lead off the ninth inning of a 24-24 contest not only decided the game's outcome, but also gave him 20 blasts for his career, surpassing Chris Hickey '87 for tops on Bates' all-time list. Coulie ended the season with 21 career homers. Coulie also established Bobcat career records for hits (123) and total bases (213), while moving into second place on the all-time stolen base list (40).

This is Coulie's fourth career All-NESCAC honor. Coulie earned All Conference honors in 1999 as a wide receiver for the football team and with the track team in spring 1999 as a member of the All-NESCAC four-by-100-meter relay team. Coulie was named football offensive MVP in 1999 while setting Bates' single-season records for pass receptions (63) and receiving yards (852).

Coulie is a 1996 graduate of Manchester Central High School. He is the son of Claire Coulie, Manchester, N.H.
