Quad Cup III
BATES PLACES THIRD AT QUAD CUP III BOSTON, Mass. - The Bates College Men's Track and Field Team ran into some stiff competition this weekend, placing third in Quad Cup III with 82.5 points behind Williams (256) and MIT (210.5) and ahead of WPI (41). Junior Lucas Adams (Nottingham, N.H.) led the team in scoring, winning the 35-pound weight throw, ahead of WPI's Mike Pockoski, the top ranked thrower in the nation, and taking third place in the shot put. Senior Peter Beeson (Novelty, Ohio) recorded Bates only other first place, capturing the pole vault. Beeson equaled his lifetime best of 14 feet and nearly set a new personal record of 14 feet, six inches. Beeson did qualify for the Open New England Championships. Sophomore Erik Zwick (Virginia Beach, Va.) placed second in his first-ever collegiate race in the 400-meter dash, running a 51.67, a personal best by 2.67 seconds. In one of the most competitive races of the meet, junior Mike Danahy (So. Windsor, Conn.) took second in the 3000-meters with a time of 8:42.08, just .43 seconds behind NCAA cross country championship runner-up Paul Alsdorf of Williams College. Danahy closed with an impressive 2:46 over his last 1000 meters and 29 seconds over his last 200 meters.
