BATES PLACES THIRD AT QUAD CUP II LEWISTON, Maine -- With a pair of NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field championship performances, the Bates College men's indoor track team placed third among five teams at today's Quad Cup meet at Bowdoin. Junior Lucas Adams (Nottingham, N.H.) captured the 35-pound weight throw, ectending his personal record and national automatic qualifying distance to 58 feet even. Adams' throw ranked him fourth in the nation. Classmate Mike Danahy (So. Windsor, Conn.) took second in the 5,000-meter run, qualifying him provisionally for the NCAAs. His time of 14:59 was a personal best by six seconds. A trip to nationals would be Danahy's first in track, after he made his first cross coutry NCAA championship appearance in the fall. The Bobcats' only other winning performance came from sophomore Erik Zwick (Virginia Beach, Va.). Zwick, the school record holder in the 200-meter dash, won the even with a time of 23.20. Finishing behind MIT and Tufts, but ahead of Colby and Bowdoin, the Bobcats' Quad Cup record stands at 7-2.
