BATES CAPTURES QUAD CUP MEET LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College men's indoor track and field team captured its first multi-team meet of the season with a victory Colby, Southern Maine, UMass-Dartmouth and Westfield State The meet was highlighted by junior weight thrower Lucas Adams (Nottingham, N.H.), who's distance of 57 feet, 11 3/4 inches in the 35-pound weight throw qualified him automatically for the NCAA Division III national championships. Adams earned All-America honors in the event last year, when he placed sixth overall in the nation. Adams also won the shot put with a throw of 46 feet, one inch. Colby junior Jamie Brewster, who placed second in the weight throw, qualified provisionally with a toss of 53 feet, 1 1/2 inches. Bates also got victories from junior Mike Danahy (So. Windsor, Conn.) in the 1,500-meter run, junior Trevor Emory (Rosemont, Pa.) in the 800-meter run, sophomore Erik Zwick (Virginia Beach, Va.) in the 200-meter dash, senior Aron Shapiro (Lexington, Mass.) in the triple jump, and senior Jeff Crowder (Ft. Washinton, Pa.) in the pole vault.
