State of Maine Championships
at Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bates College sophomore doubles tandem of Greg Norton (Mansfield, Mass.) and Milko Todorov (Sofia, Bulgaria) successfully defended their State of Maine doubles championship, defeating teammates Sean Bilsborrow-Koo (Chapel Hill, N.C.) and Ben Lamanna (Barrington, R.I.) in the finals, 6-4, 7-5. Both teams had tough matches in the semi-finals, with Todorov and Norton winning a tie-breaker 8-6 over opponents from Bowdoin, and Bilsborrow-Koo and Lamanna taking a 7-4 win over foes from Colby to earn the title match.

In singles action, Norton was the most successful Bates participant, reaching the semifinals before falling to runner-up Patrick Fleury of Bowdoin. The other three Bobcats each won their first-round matches, with Lamanna and Dave Carlson (Ramsey, N.J) cruising to 8-0 victories, while captain John Tucker (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) won his opening match 8-3.
