CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Bates men's squash, seeded No. 15 in the NISRA Team championships, lived up to their pre-tournament spot. The Bobcats fell in the opening round to No. 10 Denison, 8-1, before extending No. 14 Franklin and Marshall to the limit before losing, 5-4. NESCAC rival Amherst came next and the Bobcats triumphed, 6-3, to secure the 15th spot. In the opener, junior Matt Wu (New Haven, Conn.) secured Bates' lone win against Denison at No. 7. Against F&M, three matches went to five games, but the Diplomats won two of those to clinch the overall victory. Rookie Alex Wolff (Lincoln, Mass.), sophomore Chad Mountain (Greenwich, Conn.) and senior captain Ethan Kerr (Milton, Mass.) all recorded sweeps. The Bobcats went 2-2 in five-game matches against Amherst, but 3-0 wins by junior Eric Lopez (Nassau, Bahamas) at No. 2 and senior Sam Huleatt (Windsor, Conn.) at No. 3 and Wolff at No. 8 helped secure the victory.
