COLBY DOWNS BATES, 1-0

Despite outshooting their opponents, 9-4, the Bates College men's soccer team (7-5) dropped a tough 1-0 decision to Colby (7-4-1) in Lewiston.

Colby scored the only goal of the game late in the first half on a goal from senior Mark Melander (Bowdoinham, Maine). The Bobcats had two goals called back in the game. One appeared to have crossed the goal line, but did not hit the back of the net. The other came after a free kick from just outside the box. First-year Drew Weymouth (Holden, Mass.) sent the ball to classmate Chad LaFauci (No. Andover, Mass.), who rifled the ball home but was called back when the referee determined that the ball had not completely stopped moving.

Colby sophomore Justin Amirault (Plymouth, Mass.) made eight saves for the shutout, while Bates senior Brian Anton (Boca Raton, Fla. ) had three saves.
