WILLIAMS DOWNS BATES, 4-0, IN NESCAC SHOWDOWN

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The host Williams College Ephs (8-0, 4-0 NESCAC), ranked third in the nation entering the game, defeated the visiting Bates College Bobcats (3-4, 1-3 NESCAC) in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) showdown today.

The Bobcats fell behind early when Ephs back Mark Williams scored his third collegiate goal from six yards out just under seven minutes into the game. Bates looked ready to take the one-goal deficit into the break before Williams junior Alex Blake scored the first of his three goals of the day with 11 seconds left in the first stanza, beating Bates senior goalkeeper Dan Spector (Framingham, Mass.) to the ball and chipping it over his outstreched body.

Blake scored his second goal with 30 minutes left in the contest on a blast from 12 yards out and closed the scoring by again beating Spector to a ball sent over the defense by Williams midfielder Ted Giannacopoulos, who assisted all four Williams goals.
