BOBCATS BOUNCE UNIV. OF NEW ENGLAND, 8-0

LEWISTON, Maine -- Four different Bates College players registered a goal and an assist as the Bobcats (4-4) defeated the visiting University of New England Nor'Easters (0-10) in a non-conference men's soccer match-up on Russell Street Field today.

Senior forward Drew Weymouth (Holden, Mass.) and junior forward Josh Myer (Los Angeles, Cal.) started things off for the Bobcats in the 11th minute. Weymouth pounced on a shot by Myer that hit off the post, then returned the favor by feeding Myer for a goal just 33 seconds later. Junior midfielder Nick MacInnis (No. Andover, Mass.) added his first goal of the season in the 31st minute and rookie Terence O'Connell (Greenwich, Conn.) scored the fourth goal of the game with 1:11 left before the half on an assist by classmate Dan Bradford (Pepperell, Mass.). Bradford added a goal in the second half and rookie Eben Sypitkowski (Bangor, Maine) rounded out the Bates players who recorded a three-point game.

Bates goalkeepers Dan Spector (Framingham, Mass.) And Chris Mansfield (Lincoln, Mass.) split time in goal for Bates' third shut out of the season, while UNE keeper Nate Montminy (Mount Desert Island, Maine) made 13 saves in the losing effort. The Nor'Easters take on conference foe Wentworth on Saturday, while Bates heads to Wesleyan for a key NESCAC matchup.
