BOWDOIN BLANKS BATES, 2-0

LEWISTON, Maine -- Bowdoin College senior David Bulow (Denver, Colo.) scored two goals as the visiting Polar Bears defeated the host Bates College Bobcats, 2-0, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's soccer match.

Bulow opened the scoring in the 30th minute when he took a nice through pass from classmate Patrick Bracewell (Washington, D.C.) and beat Bates keeper Dan Spector (Framingham, Mass.), who came out to try to intercept the pass. The goal was Bulow's 15th of the season, setting a Bowdoin single-season record. He added a 16th goal early in the second half when Bracewell and junior Bart McMann (Marshfield, Mass.) played tic-tac-toe in the Bates box to beat Spector.

The Bobcats (6-5-2, 2-4-2 NESCAC) put on greater offensive pressure in the second half. After getting off only one shot in the first, they had 14 shots in the second stanza, but were unable to get one past the Bowdoin (9-3-1, 5-2-1 NESCAC) defense. Spector made five saves in the losing effort, while Bowdoin sophomore Travis Derr (Berlin, Conn.) made four saves in his fourth shutout of the season.
