MEN'S LAX BOWS TO BOWDOIN, 13-4

LEWISTON, Maine - Junior attacker Nick Rutherford (Woodbridge, Conn.) scored five goals, four of which came in the fourth quarter as the visiting Bowdoin College Polar Bears (7-4) defeated the Bates College Bobcats (5-5) by a 13-4 margin at Garcelon Field today.

Bowdoin jumped out quickly, scoring the first five goals before Bates sophomore Dylan Cruess (Concord, N.H.) got the Bobcats on the board with 4:51 remaining in the second period. Bowdoin scored twice in a 45 second span to increase their lead to 7-1 before first-year attacker Jack Sandler (Hicksville, N.Y.) scored just before intermission, cutting the Bobcats' deficit to five. But Rutherford's four-goal outburst in the third period, while the Bobcats were held scoreless, halted any hopes of a comeback.

Bates juniors Dirk Huntington (Falls Church, Va.) and David Pillsbury (Gill, Mass.), combined for 15 saves, while junior goalkeeper Will Casella (Sewickley, Pa.) made 19 saves for Bowdoin.
