MIDDLEBURY DOWNS BATES, 21-10

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. —Host Middlebury College (11-1, 8-0 NESCAC) outscored the visiting Bates College Bobcats (5-7, 2-6 NESCAC) 6-1 in both the first and fourth periods as the Panthers won a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's lacrosse contest, 21-10.

After the Panthers took a 7-2 lead on Holt Hopkin's fourth goal of the game just over two minutes into the second period, the Bobcats went on 3-0 run that was sparked by senior midfielder Aaron Sells' (Brookline, Mass.) man-advantage goal at the 11:58 mark of the second half. Pat Gaughan (Duxbury, Mass.) cut the lead to 7-5 just over two minutes later before Hopkins pushed the lead back to three. Rookie Scott Duddy (Concord, N.H.) scored on a feed from junior Jack Sandler (Hicksville, N.Y.) with 2:54 left in the half to get Bates back within two goals, but the Panthers scored twice in the final minute of the half to take a 10-6 lead into the break on Zach Herbert's second goal of the game. Herbert scored twice more to open the third period as Middlebury took a 12-6 lead. Bates would climb to within five goals on two more occasions, but the Panthers ended the contest on a 6-1 run for the 21-10 victory.

Middlebury starting goalkeeper Eric Krieger made 12 saves for the win, while Bobcat Mark Dobbyn (Warren, R.I.) had seven stops in the losing effort.
