MEN'S LAX SNEAKS PAST KINGS POINT, 11-10, IN CAMBRIDGE

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Bates College men's lacrosse team sneaked past the United State Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point), 11-10, in a neutral site contest on the campus of MIT.

With a tie game headed into the second period, Bates (5-1) outscored the Mariners 4-3 to take a one-goal lead into the half. The Bobcats extended the lead to 10-7 after three quarters. Kings Point (2-3) wouldn't go away, however, holding the Bobcats to one goal in the fourth, but the deficit was too large to overcome.

Sophomore attack Jack Sandler (Hicksville, N.Y.) had seven points for the second game in a row to lead the Bobcats, notching six goals and an assist. Classmate Dave Frederick (Hartford Conn.) and senior Jon Miller (Canton, Mass.) each had two assists. Senior Dirk Huntington (Falls Church, Va.) picked up the win, making 11 saves. This marked the second year in a row the Bobcats beat Kings Point by a one-goal margin, after a 6-5 decision in the Drew University Invitational a year ago.
