Williams 90, Bates 79 HOT START PROPELS WILLIAMS PAST BATES, 90-79 LEWISTON, Maine - Williams College senior Mike Holland (East Williston, N.Y.) had game-highs with 22 points and 13 rebounds as the Ephs (15-4) defeated the Bates College Bobcats (9-10), 90-79, in Alumni Gym tonight. William started the game by hitting their first six shots from the floor over the first 2:26 of the game, including two by Holland and senior Matt Hunt (Clinton, N.Y.). After the initial run, the Bobcats settled down and played the game evenly. Williams took an 11-point lead into the half, 52-41. The Bobcats closed to within five points in the second, using an 11 5 run over the first four minutes of the half, making the score 57-52 on an offensive put-back by first-year forward Alex Wilson (Duxbury, Mass.). The Ephs took momentum right back, however, when senior Jim Frew (Worcester, Mass.) converted a four-point play, returning the lead to nine at 61-52. Neither team scored more than two consecutive baskets after that point. Bates was led by 18 points from sophomore forward Rommel Padonou (Libreville, Gabon) and 17 from first-year forward Ed Walker (Roxbury, Mass.)
