BATES MEN DEALT 87-77 LOSS TO WESLEYAN

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The Wesleyan University Cardinals (10-8) broke a 42-42 tie with an 11-4 burst, led by three straight 3-point field goals and never trailed thereafter, taking an 87-77 decision from the Bates College Bobcats (9-8).

The Bobcats got as close as three points at 59-53 with 8:30 remaining in the game, but Wesleyan answered with a 12-3 run, giving them a 71-59 lead with 5:25 to go. The lead never dipped below eight points after that.

Bates was led by first-year forward/guard Ed Walker (Roxbury, Mass.), who had 23 points, and first-year center Alex Wilson (Duxbury, Mass.), who notched a double-double with 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. The Bobcats' two leading scorers, first-year guard Billy Hart (Haverhill, Mass.) and Rommel Padonou (Libreville, Gabon), who normally combine for 35 points per game were held to 13 and 10 points respectively. For Hart, it marked the first game of the season in which he did not hit a 3-point field goal.
