BATES MEN SNAP FIVE-GAME SKID WITH 103-87 VICTORY OVER UMF

LEWISTON - All five Bates College starters scored at least 14 points, with three Bobcats registering double-doubles as the Bates men defeated the University of Maine at Farmington Beavers, 103-87, here tonight.

First-year guard Billy Hart (Haverhill, Mass.) led all scorers with 27 points, including five-of-seven 3-point field goal shooting, and seven assists. Classmate Ed Walker (Roxbury, Mass.) had 14 points and a career- and game-high 14 rebounds, while senior Garth Timoll (Owings Mills, Md.) had 14 points and 11 boards. Sophomore forward Rommel Padonou (Libreville, Gabon) recorded his ninth double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while first-year center Alex Wilson (Duxbury, Mass.) rounded out the top scorers with 18 points on seven-of-12 shooting from the floor.

Junior guard Jared Rivers (Skowhegan, Maine) led Maine-Farmington (8-10) with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while junior forward Daren Meader (Waterville, Maine) had 22 points and six assists.

The Bobcats snap a season-long five-game losing streak and a three game skid against Maine-Farmington. At 9-7, Bates has tripled its win total from a season ago with eight games remaining in the regular season.
