BATES MEN PICK UP FIRST NESCAC WIN OF SEASON, 72-56, OVER MIDDLEBURY LEWISTON, Maine - First-year forwards Ed Walker (Roxbury, Mass.) and Alex Wilson (Duxbury, Mass.) each recorded a double-double as the Bates College Bobcats defeated the Middlebury College Panthers, 72-56, in Alumni Gymnasium. In the first half, Middlebury (9-11) hit seven-of-18 3-point field goals to take the lead, 39-37, but it was a Walker trey just before the half that gave Bates (10-10) momentum headed into the locker room. The Bobcats hit the first bucket of the second half three minutes in and the teams traded baskets for the next five minutes. With the game tied, 47-47, with 12:07 on the clock, Bates went on the decisive run of the game. Walker and Wilson had 11 points over the next nine minutes as the Bobcats scored 20 of the next 24 points to take a 67-51 lead with 3:44 remaining. In the second half, the Panthers shot just two-of-16 from three-point range, and seven of-34 overall (20.6 percent). Walker tallied a game-high 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Wilson's game-high 12 caroms went with his 16 points. First-year guard Matt Moulis (Concord, N.H.) had 12 points off the bench. Middlebury was led by 20 points from junior Craig Breen (Waterbury, Vt.) and 16 from sophomore John Barrett (Mountain Lakes, N.J.)
