BATES TOPS LYNDON STATE IN THREE-POINT SHOOTOUT, 89-80

NORTHFIELD, Vt. -- The Bates College Bobcats (3-1) hit 11 three-point field goals en route to matching their win total from a year ago, as they defeated Lyndon State College, 89-80, in the first round of the Ed Hockebury Classic at Norwich University

Bates shot 50 percent from behind the arc (11-22), Lyndon State hit 57 percent from long range (12-21). The big difference for the Bobcats came from inside, where Bates also hit 50 percent (22-44), while Lyndon State hit just 32 percent (16-50), including six for 31 in the second half, just 29 percent.

The Bobcats were led by first-year center Alex Wilson (Duxbury, Mass.), who had 24 points on 11 of 16 shooting from the floor and a game-high 13 rebounds, while sophomore Rommel Padonou (Libreville, Gabon) had his second consecutive double-double with 22 points and 12 boards. Bates will face the winner of the Thomas College-Norwich University game tomorrow afternoon.
