BATES MEN DROP 117-78 DECISION TO HAMILTON

LEWISTON Ð Senior forward Michael Schantz (Sharon, Mass.) scored 35 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Hamilton College Continentals (10-4) defeated the Bates College Bobcats (8-7), 117-78 here today.

Bates was hurt by the foul trouble by sophomore forward Rommel Padonou (Libreville, Gabon). When Padonou picked up his third foul with 12:42 remaining in the first half, the Bobcats trailed by nine, 20-11. The Continentals went on an 18-4 run over the next four and a half minutes, giving them a 38-15 lead. Hamilton extended the lead to 57-30 by the end of the half and never looked back.

Schantz also led Hamilton with four steals and was second with four assists. Senior Jon Schmeigel (Watangh, N.Y.) had 21 points and nine rebounds. Bates was led by first-year guard Billy Hart (Haverhill, Mass.), who had 17 point and four assists, and first-year forwardEd Walker (Roxbury, Mass.) who had 14 points.
