BOBCATS DROP FINALE TO BOWDOIN, 73-56

(Taken from a Bowdoin College Press Release)
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College junior Wil Smith (Jacksonville, Fla.) scored 14 points, dished out six assists and had five steals, helping the Polar Bears defeat Bates in the season finale for both teams, 73-56. Three other players scored in double-figures for the Polar Bears as Bowdoin (17-7) won its eighth-straight game.

Bates (10-14) came out and controlled the first half of play and a pair of Alex Wilson (Duxbury, Mass.) free throws gave the Bobcats a 21-12 edge with 8:50 left in the first frame. However, from that point on, Bowdoin went of a 24-8 run to build a 36-29 cushion at the half.

Billy Hart (Haverhill, Mass.) came out of the second half with two of his five three-pointers and Wilson netted another jumper, cutting the Polar Bear edge to 38-37. Bates would get no closer the rest of the way as sophomores David Baranowski (Amherst, N.H.) and Hugh Coleman (Boston, Mass.) scored 16 and 15 points respectively to help Bowdoin pull away.

Hart was the high man for Bates with 19 while Wilson was right behind with 18. The Bowdoin defensive effort held Bobcat leading scorer Rommel Padonou (Libreville, Gabon) to just four points while the Polar Bears shot 54 percent from the floor for the game.
