MEN'S HOOPS DROPS MOUNT IDA, 88-74 IN SEASON OPENER

NORTON, Mass. -- Four Bates College players reached double figures, including a game-high 25 points from senior Ed Walker(Roxbury, Mass.) as the Bobcats opened the season with an 88-74 victory over the Mt. Ida College Mustangs in the opening round of the Wheaton College Tip-Off Tournament.

Walker notched his 25 points on nine-of-19 shooting from the floor and seven-of-eight from the free throw line. He also had two assists, two blocks and a steal. Starting forwards Alex Wilson (Duxbury, Mass.) and C.J. Neely (No. Easton, Mass.) both recorded double-doubles. Neely had 17 points and 10 boards, while Wilson had 15 and 10. Junior transfer Angelo Salvaggio (Portland, Maine) added 11 points in his first game in a Bobcat uniform, while sophomore point guard Ramon Garcia (Haverhill, Mass.) had a team-high four assists.

Bates held the Mustangs to just 30.1 percent shooting (25-83) while hitting 47 percent of their own shots (31-66), including a torrid 59 percent from inside the arc. the Bobcats also hit 23 of 27 free throws, including 12-of-13 in the first half en route to a 49-34 lead at the break.
