WILSON REACHES 1,500 POINTS, BOBCATS FALL SHORT
Conn. College takes 85-74 victory

LEWISTON, Maine —Bates College senior forward Alex Wilson (Duxbury, Mass.) scored 22 points to become the third player in Bobcat history to score 1,500 career points, but it wasn't enough as the visiting Connecticut College Camels took an 85-74 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) victory in Alumni Gymnasium tonight.

Wilson scored seven points in the first half to move into sole possession of third on the all-time scoring list with 1,489 points. He hit the 1,500-milestone basket on a midrange jumper six minutes into the second half. Wilson hit nine-of-18 shots from the floor to finish with a game-high 22 points, giving him 1,505 for his career.

Connecticut College (14-8, 5-3 NESCAC) started the contest by scoring the first 16 points of the game and never trailed thereafter. Bates finished the first half strongly, closing to within five at 38-33. The Bobcats closed on a 14-5 run over the final six minutes to close the gap. Conn. College senior forward Rich Futia (Greenwich, Conn.) led all scorers with 11 points in the stanza.

Bates (13-10, 1-7 NESCAC) opened the second half on a 3-point field goal by sophomore Ramon Garcia (Haverhill, Mass.) to get within two points, but the Bobcats would get no closer. The Camels went on an 18-10 run over the next seven minutes, going up 56-46 on a bucket by senior Dave Brown (New York, N.Y.) at the 13:53 mark. Conn. College never trailed by less than seven points again.

Wilson led all players with 22 points for the Bobcats, while matching Brown for game-high honors with nine boards. Junior C.J. Neely (No. Easton, Mass.) added 12 points and seven rebounds, while senior Ed Walker (Roxbury, Mass.) had 11 points.

Conn. College was led by 18 points each by seniors Mizan Ayers (Bronx, N.Y.) and Leland McKenna (Litchfield, Conn.), who combined to go 15-of-19 from the line. Futia added 15 points, while Brown had 13 a team-high nine rebounds. The Camels outshot Bates, 54 percent to 41, including hitting 13-of-21 shots in the second half. They also used a 23-8 scoring advantage from the free throw line to pull away in an otherwise tight statistical game.
