Bates/Bowdoin Classic HOSTS SPLIT IN BATES/BOWDOIN CLASSIC BRUNSWICK, Maine (taken from a BowdoinCollege press release) The Suffolk University men's basketball team (3-4) used an 11-0 run midway through the first half and held off a late charge by the Bates College Bobcats (4-3) to take a 91-81 win in the third game of the Bates/Bowdoin Classic today. Bates had a 25-24 lead midway through the first period when Suffolk went on an 11-0 run to take a 36-25 lead. The Rams upped the margin to as many as 18 before the Bobcats cut the gap to 48-33 on a Billy Hart (Haverhill, Mass.) 3-pointer at the buzzer. The two squads traded punches in the second half as the lead bounced between eight and 12 points. Alex Wilson (Duxbury, Mass.) cut the lead to seven with a jumper at the 6:30 mark, but Suffolk held off the Bobcats' final push by hitting their free throws down the stretch to earn the 10-point win. Wilson recorded a double-double, leading all players with 30 points and 10 rebounds in earning a spot on the All-Classic team. Ed Walker (Roxbury, Mass.) contributed 17 points and seven boards. Suffolk's Jason Luisi led the Rams with 29 points on nine-of-18 shooting and hitting all eight free throws. Tom Carey added 17 points and Winston Daly14 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Senior Chris Fritch had a game-high nine assists and was also named to the All-Classic team. The Bowdoin College basketball team cruised from start-to-finish on their way to a dominating 105-37 win over Thomas College this afternoon. The Polar Bears, who stand at 5-1, were the only team to go 2-0 in this weekend's tournament after defeating Suffolk yesterday afternoon. It didn't take long for Bowdoin to grab control in this afternoon's game, as the Polar Bears raced out to a 17-2 lead after four mintues of play. The domination continued for the remainder of the first half, as Bowdoin took a 44-19 lead into the half. A huge run to open the second half expanded the lead to over 50 points, as the Polar Bears outscored the Terriers 61-18 in the second half. Five Bowdoin players reached double figures as T.J. McLeod led all scorers with 15 points, including 4-4 from behind the three-point arc. Hugh Coleman inched closer to 1,000 points with 11 points, while Danny Ginn (12), Sean Walker (10, on 4-5 shooting) and Chris Ranslow (10) all reached double digits. Jon Farmer had nine boards to lead the Polar Bears, while Braden Clement picked up nine assists in the win. Clement and Greg Orlicz were named from Bowdoin to the All-Classic Team, while Thomas' representative was Matt Magnusson.
