WILLIAMS DOWNS BATES, 81-46

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Williams College men's basketball team led the entire way and rolled past the Bobcats of Bates College, 81-46, in a NESCAC match up. The Ephs have now won eight games in a row, and their overall record stands at 19-3. Bates drops to 7-15 on the season with the loss.

Andrew Conley put the Ephs up 3-0 on a three pointer a minute into the game, and Williams never fell behind on the afternoon. The Ephmen led by as many as 19 in the period and eventually took a 14-point advantage into halftime at 35-21. Neither team shot particularly well in the half, as Williams shot 29 percent from the field and Bates just 26 percent. However, the Ephs too advantage of a 27-15 rebounding edge to get off 18 more shots than Bates.

In the second half, the Ephs improved from the field, shooting 50 percent, and ended any chance of a Bates comeback with a 16-2 run in the first six minutes of the period. The Ephs continued their rebounding dominance in the second half, ending the contest with a 56-29 advantage.

Leading a balanced Williams attack were Joe Weiss, who finished with 18 points and seven rebounds, and Manny Benjamin, who had 14 points and 16 rebounds. Andrew Conley also finished in double digits with 16 points, while Jim Sheehy dished out a team-high six assists.

Sophomore guard Billy Hart (Haverhill, Mass.) was the leading scorer for Bates, finishing with 14 points, including four three pointers. Classmate Ed Walker (Roxbury, Mass.) chipped in nine points, and Alex Wilson (Duxbury, Mass.) had eight. Junir forward Rommel Padonou (Libreville, Gabon) grabbed a team-high five rebounds.
