TRINITY TAKES FOOTBALL OPENER, 41-7

LEWISTON, Maine -- The Trinity College football team scored touchdowns on five of its six first-half possessions as the visiting Bantams (1-0) defeated the host Bates College Bobcats (0-1) in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) football match-up on Garcelon Field today.

The Bantams were led by the running back tandem of sophomore Tom Pierandi (Ridgefield, Conn.) and junior Brian Fabrizio (Norwell, Mass.). Pierandri rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries, while Fabrizio carried 19 times for 89 yards and touchdowns of 26 and 14 yards.

Trinity led 35-0 at halftime before Bates got on the board in the third quarter on a fumble recovery in the end zone by sophomore linebacker Pat Connors (Randolph, Mass.). Junior tailback Sean Atkins (New York, N.Y.) led the Bobcats with 21 carries for 63 yards.
