BATES TOPS USM IN DOUBLE OT, 1-0

LEWISTON, Maine -- First-year forward Virginia Hurley (Revere, Mass.) rebounded her own shot with just over three minutes to go in the second overtime to give the Bates College Bobcats a 1-0 victory over the University of Southern Maine Huskies.

The Bobcats (6-7) had several chances to put the game away in overtime, but Southern Maine (8-11) first-year goalkeeper Andrea Guerette (Lawrence, Maine) made 29 saves on the afternoon, including 15 in the two overtime periods. A spectacular sliding stick save with eight minutes remaining on Bates junior Kate Orellana (Middlebury, Vt.) prolonged the game. Bates goalkeeper Peggy Ficks (Washington, Conn.) made seven saves for the Bobcats, picking up her fifth shutout of the season and the Bobcats' sixth as a team.

This was the third straight year that the Bobcats and Huskies played into overtime, the first in double OT. Bates closes out the regular season on Saturday at home against Colby.
