BATES WINS THIRD STRAIGHT, 2-0, OVER NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE

The Bates College field hockey team (4-5) won its third straight game, defeating New England College, 2-0. The Pilgrims (11-2) entered the game ranked fifth in the most recent NCAA Division III New England West rankings.

After a scoreless first half, the Bobcats got on the board less tham 10 minutes into the second half, when first-year forward Virginia Hurley (Revere, Mass.) knocked in a rebound of her own shot for her second goal of the season. The Bobcats scored an insurance goal with just over six minutes remaining, when first-year forward Leslie Moser (Adamant, Vt.) converted a scramble in front of the net after a penalty corner. The assist went to senior Rosie Lenehan (Concord, N.H.).

Bates sophomore Peggy Ficks (Washington, Conn.) recorded eight saves for her third shutout of the season.
