HOHLT GETS FIRST BATES WIN, 3-0, OVER GORDON

Coach Wynn Hohlt picked up her first win on the Bates sidelines as the Bobcats (1-4) defeated Gordon College (6-3), 3-0.

The Bobcats opened thing up quickly, scoring twice in the first five minutes of play. Junior forward Kate Orelanna (Middlebury, Vt.) poked a pass from sophomore forward Abby Lenhart (Bethesda, Md.) following a penalty corner less than 90 second into the game. First-year forward Amanda Slocum (Rochester, N.Y.) converted a scramble in front of the front of the net one minute later. The assist went to senior Rosie Lenehan.

The Bobcats scored once in the second half, as first-year back Alexis Ramenofsky (Pelham, N.Y.) connected with classmate Virginia Hurley (Revere, Mass.), who blasted the goal home from just inside the circle with 17:22 remaining in the game.

Hohlt had dropped her first four in a row to regionally-ranked teams. She came to Bates from Plymouth State College, where her field hockey teams made the postseason in four of the last five years.

Bates goalkeeper Peggy Ficks (Washington, Conn.) made 19 saves for her fourth career shutout. Gordon junior Mindy Pierce (Medford, Mass.) made 14 saves in the losing effort.
