BATES DEFEATS COLBY, 3-2, ON PENALTY STROKES

Bates and Colby were tied, 2-2, after 100 minutes of regulation and overtime before the Bobcats defeated the White Mules, 2-1, on penalty strokes. It was the second straight OT win for Bates.

Colby got the only goal of the first half when first-year player Liz Brandt (Concord, N.H.) knocked home a rebound of her own shot with 13:49 remaining. The Bobcats scored twice, 11 minutes apart, in the second half. Three minutes into the second, junior Kate Orellana (Middlebury, Vt.) scored on an assist from first-year player Leslie Moser (Adamant, Vt.). At the 21:17 mark, sophomore back Sarah McGrath (Middlebury, Vt.) knocked home a rebound off a shot from first-year player Amanda Slocum (Rochester, N.Y.). The White Mules tied the game with 1:59 remaining when Marcia Ingraham (Georgetown, Mass.) scored on a penalty corner.

After two scoreless overtime periods, Bates goalkeeperPeggy Ficks (Washington, Conn.) stopped four of five Colby penalty strokes, while junior Kim Holzer (Adams, Mass.) and senior Amanda Schall (Chevy Chase, Md.) tallied for the Bobcats. Ficks made 16 saves as the Bobcats finished the season at 7-7. The Bobcats have won three in a row against Colby.
