BATES FALLS, 1-0, TO WILLIAMS, WIN STREAK SNAPPED AT FIVE

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Despite playing much of the game in the home end of the field, the Bates College field hockey team (5-3) was unable to take advantage of their opportunities, dropping a 1-0 decision to Williams.

The Bobcats were held scoreless for the first time this season despite outshooting Williams, 17-13. Junior goalkeeper Peggy Ficks (Washington, Conn.) played well in goal, making nine saves, while senior cocaptain Elizabth Hawthorne (Jenkintown, Pa.) made a huge defensive save in the second half, but Williams was able to convert their only penalty corner of the second period with 23 minutes left in the game. The loss snaps the Bobcats' five-game winning streak. Bates next takes the field Tuesday against Simmons.
