BATES FIELD HOCKEY WRAPS UP REGULAR SEASON WITH 2-1 WIN OVER COLBY

WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Bates College field hockey team (11-3) fell behind early, but rallied in the second half to defeat CBB rival Colby (8-6), 2-1, giving the Bobcats their winningest season since they went 12-2-2 in 1982.

The White Mules got on the board within three minutes, as senior co-captain Robynne DeCaprio (Chelmsford, Mass.) scored on an assist from sophomore Becca Bruce (Exeter, N.H.) at the 32:34 mark. The Bobcats defense, led by goalkeeper Peggy Ficks's (Washington, Conn.) 15 saves, kept Colby off the board the rest of the game.

Bates evened the game early in the second half, as first-year forward Johie Farrar (W. Paris, Maine) tallied her ninth goal of the season just under five minutes into the second stanza. Sophomore Amanda Slocum (Rochester, N.Y.) had the assist, firing a shot from outside the circle that Farrar deflected home. Farrar's goal tied her for the team lead with sophomore Ginny Hurley (Revere, Mass.). Junior Abby Lenhart (Bethesda, Md.) notched the game-winning goal, beating Colby goalkeeper Jane Stevens through her feet with 19:17 left in the game on an assist from first-year Julia Price (Mansfield, Mass.).

The win was the Bobcats' fourth in a row against Colby, dating back to 1996. Coach Wynn Hohlt and the team will learn if they have earned a second-straight post-season berth late Sunday night or early Monday morning.
