WESLEYAN TOPS BATES, 2-0, IN NESCAC FIELD HOCKEY

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- The Wesleyan University Cardinals (6-6, 3-4 NESCAC) scored once in each half to take a 2-0 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) victory against the visiting Bates College Bobcats (2-9, 1-6 NESCAC).

Cardinal Sonya Behnke got the scoring started with just under 10 minutes left in the first half when she put a shot of Bates junior goalkeeper Lindsay Gary's (Del Mar, Cal.) pads and in. Wesleyan added an insurance goal early in the second half on a goal by Melissa Courtemanche with Martina McPherson picking up the assist. Gary made 20 saves for the Bobcats, including thwarting a Wesleyan penalty stroke.
