USM STOPS BATES, 2-1
GORHAM, Maine -- The Bates College junior tandem of Johie Farrar (W. Paris, Maine) and Julia Price (Mansfield, Mass.) connected for a Bobcat goal for the third time this season, but the host University of Southern Maine Huskies (2-1) scored once in each half to take a 2-1 decision today.
USM got on the board in the first half on a goal by senior Liza Barker (Greene, Maine) with 5:56 left before halftime. Bates' (0-2) Farrar scored the equalizer less than 10 minutes into the second half on a feed from Price at the 25:51 mark. Huskie junior Brittany McClure (Belfast, Maine) scored the game-winner 11 minutes later when her shot trickled past Bates junior goalkeeper Lindsay Gary (Del Mar, Cal.), who was making her second career start.
Gary made 10 saves in the losing effort, while Southern Maine sophomore Jessie Superchi (Campton, N.H.) had seven stops in leading the Huskies to their first win in the series since 1997.
