OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION LEADS BATES PAST UMF, 5-1

LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College field hockey team (2-7) saw five different players score goals as the Bobcats defeated the visiting University of Maine-Farmington Beavers (5-3), 5-1, on Campus Ave. Field today.

Bates senior forward Leslie Moser (Adamant, Vt.) opened the scoring with an unassisted goal with 14:19 left in the first half. Maine-Farmington answered just 70 second later when senior forward Katie Bernier (Windham, Maine) slipped one past Bates junior goalkeeper Lindsay Gary (Del Mar, Cal.), with sophomore Dorice Reichtel (Augusta, Maine) picking up the assist. Bates reclaimed the lead for good three and a half minutes later on junior forward Julia Price's (Mansfield, Mass.) second goal of the season 9:32 before the half. Bates blew the game open in the second half on goals by first-year players Jessica Bradley (Wellesley, Mass.), Mary Alice Cornog (Harrisville, N.H.) and Lindsay Mayock (No. Conway, NH), each scoring their first career points. Senior Ginny Hurley (Revere, Mass.) had two assists in the second half, her first points in nearly two seasons.

UMF junior goalkeeper Fawn Albert (Cornville, Maine) made 24 saves in the losing effort, stopping several more Bates scoring chances. Gary had one save to pick up the win.
