STRONG SECOND HALF LEADS BATES PAST UMF, 4-0

FARMINGTON, Maine -- A four-goal second half eruption led the Bates College (6-3) field hockey team to its third straight win, 4-0, over the host Maine-Farmington Beavers today.

All four Bobcat goals came from rookies, led by forward Lori Jessup (Hatboro, Pa.), who scored twice in the first 15 minutes of the second stanza. Classmate Annie Schauer (Louisville, Ky.) assisted on Jessup's first goal, then scored one of her own less than two minutes after Jessup's second goal. Forward Samara Khalique (W. Hartford, Conn.) closed out the scoring with 11 minutes on the clock.

The Bates goalkeeping tandem of senior starter Peg Ficks (Washington, Conn.) and sophomore Lindsay Gary (San Diego, Calif.), who played the final 16 minutes of the contest, combined on six saves in the Bobcats' fourth shutout of the year, while UMF's Fawn Albert made eight saves in the losing effort. Next time out, Bates takes on nationally-ranked Williams on saturday, while UMF hosts Bowdoin a week from today.
