FIELD HOCKEY DROPS BACK END OF WEEKEND ROAD TRIP, 4-1, AT MIDDLEBURY

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- In one of the toughest road trips anyone will face in the NESCAC this season, the Bates College field hockey team (3-3, 1-3 NESCAC) dropped the second game to Middlebury (2-4, 2-2 NESCAC), 4-1, in Vermont, one day after defeating Trinity in Connecticut.

The Panthers scored first, five minutes into the game on a goal by Char Glessner. Neither team was able to find the back of the net again until the Panthers scored the eventual game-winner just five minutes into the second stanza, when Liz Golting knocked home a rebound off a penalty corner. Bates cut the lead in half on the first goal of the season by senior Nicole St. Jean (Exeter, N.H.), but Glessner added two more goals in the final eight minutes of play to ice the game.

Bates goalkeeper Peggy Ficks (Washington, Conn.) made 10 saves in the loss, while Middlebury's Becca Randall had four stops in the winning effort.
