St. Joseph's 10, Bates 4

The Bates College baseball team (7-11) generated more offense than in their first meeting with St. Joseph's, but first-year pitcher Andy Stanton (Great Bend, Pa.) struggled in his second collegiate start, allowing 13 hits and 10 runs in 6 1/3 innings. Offensively, the Bobcats were led by sophomore right fielder Jason Coulie (Manchester, N.H.), who was 3-4 with a double, a stolen base, two runs scored an RBI and his seventh home run of the season. Junior DH Shirl Penney (Eastport, Maine) was 2-4 with two RBI and his first career home run. The Bobcats have now hit 21 round trippers this season, the most since the 1990 team hit 30.
