ST. JOE'S USES NINE-RUN FOURTH INNING TO TOP BATES, 15-8

(Taken from a St. Joseph's College Press release) STANDISH, Maine - Senior Todd Spencer (Sabattus, Maine) had three hits, including a three-run home run and four RBI to lead the St. Joseph's College Monks (19-12) to a 15-8 defeat of the Bates College Bobcats (5-14) Thursday afternoon at Ward Field.

Bates took a 6-3 lead in the top of the second inning, bunching five hits an error and a walk to score five runs. Senior 3b Scott McAuliffe (Concord, N.H.) and sophomore OF Ben Bines (Lexington, Mass.) each had a two-run double, with sophomore SS Christian Galligher (Mont Vernon, N.H.) adding an RBI single.

St. Joe's reclaimed the lead in the fourth inning by sending 13 batters to the plate, scoring nine times to go up 12-7. Bates starter Ben Donaldson (Lamoine, Maine) gave up two bases-loaded walks, followed by a two-run single by senior Chris Lord (Portland, Maine). SJC senior Todd Spencer (Sabattus, Maine) followed with a two-run single of his own as part of 3-4 day with four runs scored, three RBI and a home run.

The Bobcats were paced by Bines, who was 3-5 with three RBI and two doubles, giving him five in the last two games, and McAuliffe, who 4-5 with two RBI. Junior Jason Coulie (Manchester, N.H.) rapped his third home run of the season and 12th of his career in the first inning.
