COLBY BASEBALL DOWNS BATES IN 11-9 SLUGFEST

(Taken from a Colby College press release)
WATERVILLE, Maine - Colby College senior co-captain Brian DiBello (Cumberland, R.I./LaSalle Academy) pitched 2 1/3 perfect innings of relief as the White Mules baseball team held on to an 11-9 victory over Bates College on Wednesday afternoon. Colby (16-12) scored six runs in the first three innings, highlighted by first-year Jon Lord's (Dublin, N.H./Taft School) fourth home run of the season, to take a 6-2 lead after three. Bates (5-18) would pull to within one in the top of the sixth, as two Colby errors opened the door for Bobcat runs. The White Mules appeared to put the game away in the bottom of the sixth when sophomore Andrew Tripp (Saco, Me./Thornton Academy) and first-year Matt Simard (Auburn, Me./Edward Little) each connected for two-run homers to cap a five-run inning, but Bates responded with its own pair of two-run blasts in the seventh. Sophomore Christian Galligher (Mount Vernon, N.H./Souhegan) launched his first home run of the year over the left field wall to cut the lead to 11-7, and sophomore Matt Pound (Santa Fe, N.M./St. Michael's) added his second round-tripper of the season three batters later to pull the Bobcats to within two at 11-9. Bates comeback would end there, however, as DiBello entered the game with two outs in the seventh. The senior righthander set down all seven batters that he faced, including five by strikeout, to pick up his second save of the season. DiBello preserved the victory for starter Alex Parrillo (Hingham, Mass./Hingham), who pitched well for five innings before leaving the game with a pulled muscle in his rib cage.
