LATE BLASTS POWER TRINITY PAST BATES, 6-3

HARTFORD, Conn. — The Bates College baseball team gave NESCAC East leader Trinity College a scare today, but the Bobcats could not pull out the upset, dropping a 6-3 decision.

Bates (3-5-1, 0-3 NESCAC East) rookie starter Mike Kinsman (Yarmouth, Maine) shut Trinity (13-3, 4-0 NESCAC East) in the first five innings as the Bobcats took a 2-0 lead with single runs in the second and fourth innings. The Bantams took their first lead of the game on a two-run home run by Kurt Piantek (Wallingford, Conn.) in the sixth. Bates evened the game with sophomore DH Drew McKenna (Middleboro, Mass.) brought home classmate Nate Maxwell (Newport, Vt.) with a sacrifice fly. Trinity's Jayme Dorr (Osterville, Mass.) gave the home team the winning runs in the bottom of the eighth inning with a towering three-run home run.

Bates had a couple of multi-hit games, including a pair of doubles by senior LF Jason Pinkham(Millbridge, Maine) and a two-for-three performance by senior captain Ben Donaldson (Lamoine, Maine). Kinsman suffered his second loss of the season for Bates, while Kevin Tidmarsh (Meriden, Conn.) improved to 4-0, going eight innings for the win.
