BOBCATS WIN FIFTH STRAIGHT, 11-8, OVER THOMAS

WATERVILLE, Maine — Playing their third game in as many days in Waterville, the Bates College baseball team defeated the host Thomas College Terriers, 11-8, in a non-conference matchup.

Bates (10-8-1) won its fifth straight contest behind a 3-4 performance from rookie DH Andy Shriro (West Newton, Mass.). Shriro's day included a solo home run in the fourth inning and RBI singles inthe fifth and seventh. Sophomore SS Nate Maxwell (Newport, Vt.) went 2-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. After allowing five runs on four hits in the first inning, Bates hurler Chris Gwozdz (Cheshire, Mass.) settled down to retire nine of the next 10 he faced to pick up his second win of the season. Senior lefty Shane Delaney (Needham, Mass.) notched up his first career save by working three innings of four-hit relief.
