BOBCATS SNAP SKID, EXPLODE PAST MIT, 19-8

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Bates College baseball team's bats came alive today as the Bobcats (2-16) snapped a four-game skid with a 19-8 pummelling of MIT (7-16).

Bates batted around three times, pounding out 15 hits as all nine starters scored runs. Rookie 3B and leadoff hitter Nate Maxwell (Newport, Vt.) and senior RF Ben Bines (Lexington, Mass.) each scored four runs. Maxwell went 3-6 with a walk, a stolen base and a double, while Bines was 2-4 with three walks. Rookie DH Drew McKenna (Middleboro, Mass.) hit his first career home run in the Bobcats' six-run sixth inning. Senior SS Christian Galligher (Mont Vernon, N.H.) had a team-high four RBI, including a two-run double off Engineer starter Jim Morris, son of former Major Leaguer Jack Morris. Junior C Ben Donaldson (Lamoine, Maine) was 2-4 with two runs, two RBI and a triple, raising his team-leading batting average to .322.

Starting pitcher Ryan Weaver (Canton, Ohio) went 5.2 innings to pick up his second victory of the season, while sophomore Billy Karz (Van Nuys, Cal.) struck out for batters in two innings of work.
